Spanish Speaking Country Wiki Project
Objective: You will be responsible for creating a wiki page about your Spanish-speaking country. This is the same country that you study for current events. The goal of this wiki page is to share research and knowledge about the country with your classmates to help make connections to your current events and to better understand the Spanish-speaking world. Your audience is the general public (whoever wants to learn about your country) and the Spanish classes here at HST. You will give a short presentation of 4-6 minutes, sharing the most important information with the class.

The wiki should include the following information:
General information
Capital city, population, demographics, religion, official language(s), major exports/industries
Geography (include map)
What is the land like? How does its geography affect its economy?
Weather and climate
Brief History
Indigenous groups, colonization, independence
Government/Current political situation
What type of government does the country have? Who is the current leader?
What is the political climate like in the country?
Culture
Where applicable: food, clothing, sports, holidays/celebrations, music, art, etc
Tourism (include photos where possible)
If someone were to visit the country, where are places that he/she should visit?
Current Events
What’s going on in the country at this time? Choose one article to briefly summarize. Address the significance. If possible, connect it back to the general information, brief history, or government/current political situation.
Exceeds Expectations:
What does it mean to exceed expectations? This means that you have gone above and beyond the requirements of the assignment to demonstrate a true and extensive knowledge of the topic. (Think back to UNC’s grading policy that we discussed in class!)
Sources:
At least 4 sources
It is important that your sources are credible! You must include them at the bottom of the wiki as references in MLA format.
Grading:
The wiki is worth one test grade.
The current events section is worth one quiz grade.
10 points will be deducted each day it is late.
Use the rubric to ensure that you have completed all parts of the assignment for maximum points. Business attire is not required but will help earn maximum credit.

Rubric: Spanish-Speaking Country Wiki (One Test Grade)

Category

Points Possible

Points Awarded

Organization
Content is well organized and related material is grouped in a logical manner.

9

General Information
Capital City, Population, demographics, religion, official language(s), major exports/industries
List format acceptable.

8

Geography
What is the land like?
